The Welara was developed in 1981 by crossbreeding the Welsh pony with the Arabian horse. In southern California Lady Wentworth was the first person known to breed this pony. She imported mares from the Coed Coch Welsh stub farm in North Wales and breed them with the stallion, Skowronek. The Welara has the best attributes of both the Welsh pony and the Arabian breeds. The Welara ponies exhibit great beauty, with great temperament, quick, smart, and adaptability.
