The Tersk Horse was developed in the 1920 – 1940’s in the Northen Caucasus by crossbreeding Strelets, Tsilindr, and Tsenitel stallions with Arab-Don and Strelets-Kabarda complex mares then adding Arabian stallions because the gene pool was limited then inbreeding. The Tersk is a light saddle breed that is as intelligent as an Arabian but more enormous and better adapted to handling. These horses have a firm build and sound health and are known for their extraordinary stamina. The Tersk horses are in great demand for export. These stallions are used widely to improve native mountain breeds like the Lokai and the Deliboz. Tersk horses are good performers and are used for flat racing, classic events, dressage, and in circuses.
