The Racking Horse originated in the United States of America. This single footed horse came from the Walking Horse breed. The Racking Horse has been around on the southern plantations even before the Civil War, but did not actually become a registered breed until 1971. This horse was great for the beginner as well as the veteran rider. The Racking Horse is very versatile and is wonderful in the show ring as well as in the work field. In the late 1960’s Joe D. Bright and a group of Alabama businessmen formed a corporation and attempted to create a register for the Racking Horse. The Racking Horse was recognized as a breed in May 23, 1971 the Racking Horse Breeders’ Association of America was created. To be eligible for the registry was determined on how we we promoted the idea of a separate and named breed and established the registry it grew faster than anyone ever dreamed.
