The Poney Francais de Selle was developed with the base stock of the Landais, which is a native French pony. The Landais has ties with the Welsh Section B and Arabian blood. The Landais was then crossbred with Connemaras, New Forest Ponies, and some Thoroughbred. The Poney Francais de Selle is bred to be a pony version of the Francais de Selle.
