The Padang pony originates from the Indonesian archipelago on the island of Sumatra. The Padang pony was developed from a strain of the Batak and then bred selectively by the Dutch at Padang Mengobes. The Padang pony was improved with Arabian influence and has an upgrading influence on other Indonesian ponies, like the Java pony. The Padang pony stands on average 12.2 hh. The Padang pony is sturdy and unrelenting for its size. These ponies are lightly built and are good-riding ponies with spirit and quality.
