The Kushum originated in Kazakhstan in the Urals region. The breed was developed in the studs of Pytimarsk and Furman between 1931 and 1976. The Kushum breed was developed through the influence of trotter, Don, Thoroughbred, Budonny with the native Kazakh breeds. The Kushum is adaptable with good working character and large solid build. This horse has a large head, broad chest, with a long and flat back. The Kushum has competed in high endurance competitions such as harness trot pulls, walking pulls, and is also well in saddle. The Kushum is used for meat and milk production. The Kushum mare can average 13 to 14 liters daily. The Kushum breed is separated into three types: basic, heavily muscled and saddler.
