The Jutland originated from the Jutland peninsula in Denmark. The Jutland is a Danish heavy horse breed. This breed dates back to the 12th century where they were warhorses and carried the knight in war. There is some evidence to suggest that the Jutlands could have even been in existence as early as the 9th century during the Viking era. During the Middle Ages the Jutland was exported to England, France, and Germany. The Jutland was used as an early influence in the breeding of the Suffolk Punch. To give the Jutland more energetic paces during the 18th century the Danish Frederiksborg was used. The Jutland was also used as the base stock for the Schleswig Draft Horse. The Jutland stands on average 15.2 to 16 hh. The present day Jutland has a close resemblance to the Suffolk Punch. This heavy draft horse is seldom used to work the land, but is still seen at horse shows and is used in the city for draft work. The Jutland is strong, vigorous, enduring, and a enthusiastic work horse.
