The German Riding Pony is a fairly new breed originating from West Germany. Crossbreeding New Forest, Connemara, Welsh, and Dulmen with Arabians and Anglo-Arabians developed this breed. They are no longer being crossbreeding today and selection of the stock is strictly maintained. The German Riding Ponies are not a distinct type so they may differ in size and type. The German Riding Pony stands on average 13.2 to 14.2 hh. These ponies are elegant with good action and conformation. The German Riding Ponies have an excellent disposition and are spirited but easy to handle. The German Riding Pony is used as children’s riding horse, for driving, and in show jumping and sporting events.
