The Furioso also known as the Furioso-North Star breed was developed at Mezohegyes in Hungary at the Hungarian state stud farm. Using Nonius mares and two stallion Thoroughbreds, Furioso and North Star, developed the bred of Furioso. These two stallions were brought to Mezohegyes in the early 1840s. The Furioso and the North Star lines were kept separate. The Thoroughbred stallion, Furioso, sired no less than 95 stallions with the Nonius mares and many of these stallions were used at the stud. North Star was a Thoroughbred of champion bloodlines and has early Norfolk Roadster ancestry. More Thoroughbred blood was introduced to each of these bloodlines. In 1885 the Furioso bloodline and the North Star bloodline began to be crossed. The Furioso bloodline has since gained dominance. The Furioso are popular throughout Europe and is mostly bred in Hungary at the old stud farm of Apajpuszta between the Danube and Tisza Rivers. This horse is also bred extensively all over Central Europe and from Austria to Poland. The Furioso is intelligent, enduring, sound, reliable and even-tempered. This horse stands on average 16 hh. The Furioso is a great riding horse and a good competition horse that works well in harness.
