The Byelorussian Harness is bred at the Zarechye stud and the stud on Pobeda state farm in Byelorussian. The native northern forest type horses were improved by crossbreeding with the Dole (strongest influence), Brabancon, and Ardennais breeds, which produced the Byelorussian. After various generations of crossing and breeding the Byelorussian Harness is adapted well to work in the wooded, swampy, and sandy areas. There are two types that are distinguished within this breed: the larger and the medium. The Byelorussian can also be used for milk, with an average yield of 9 liters, and meat production. The Byelorussians have record performances in pulls with walking, trotting and endurance. The only improvement being made to the Byelorussian today is by pure breeding.
