In 1938 the founder of the Appaloosa Horse Club, Claude Thompson, began this crossbreeding because he felt it was the only way to develop the true Appaloosa. The AraAppaloosa and Foundation Breeder's International believe that the Arabian and Appaloosa have a lot in common and date back many centuries.
