The Anglo-Arab originated in Britain but is bred mostly in France. For more than 150 years great thought has been paid to the creation of this special all-around horse. The Anglo-Arab horse is a cross between a Thoroughbred stallion and Arabian mare or vice-versa. In Britain pedigree, these are the only strains allowed. In France, a number of variations are permitted, but to be entered in the studbook there must be a minimum of 25% Arabian blood and the ancestors must be Arabian, Thoroughbred or Anglo-Arab.The Anglo-Arab should in theory combine the best of the Arabian and Thoroughbred. It should hold on to the Arabian's attributes of soundness, fortitude and stamina while integrating the capacity and some of the speed of the Thoroughbred, but without its high strung temperament.
