This was finally achieved by crossing the Tennessee Walking Horse and the Welsh Pony. The Tennesse Walking Horse for its smooth saddle gait and Welsh Pony for its beautiful head and neck. The American Walking Pony Registry was established in 1968 and ponies of this cross with various bloodlines were accepted for registration. The American Walking Pony was featured in various magazines and many horse lovers all over expressed interest in purchasing breeding stock. The American Walking Pony is seven gaited these unique gaits being the Pleasure Walk, the Merry Walk, and the Canter.
